Shawnee Game Conference

The Shawnee Game Conference (SGC) is devoted to all aspects of gaming, game design, simulation, and immersive technology. Focusing on the academic and educational aspects of game development.

Hosted by the SSU Kricker Innovation Hub, SGC continues to bring some of the most elite sessions to the region.

SGC routinely showcases the best work of students, alumni, and industry professionals through interactive sessions, displays, and tournament competitions. Industry professionals bring a wealth of knowledge to the conference every year with talks including computer science, character design, animation, production, development, and much more.


 
 

THE SHAWNEE GAME CONFERENCE CULTURE

The Shawnee Game Conference is an inclusive space dedicated to everyone passionate about games and game development. We welcome participants of all ages, races, genders, religions, sexual orientations, nationalities, and identities. Our goal is to foster an environment of learning, networking, and creativity within the gaming community of Shawnee, the Midwest, and beyond.

As a diverse community, you may encounter content or opinions different from your own. We encourage you to approach these differences with an open mind and understanding. However, if you observe any behavior or content that violates our Code of Conduct, please report it to a conference team member.

CODE OF CONDUCT

By attending the Shawnee Game Conference, you agree to uphold the community's standards of respect and inclusivity. Any behavior deemed unacceptable or disruptive at any event associated with the conference may result in immediate action, including potential removal from the event without a refund. We expect all attendees to contribute positively to the environment, ensuring that it remains welcoming to everyone.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of behaviors that will not be tolerated:

  • Violence or Threats: Engaging in or threatening physical or verbal violence.

  • Harassment: Including, but not limited to, verbal abuse, offensive comments, or physical actions based on gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, or any other personal characteristic.

  • Discriminatory Language or Jokes: Use of sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory language.

  • Sexually Explicit or Violent Content: Displaying or sharing sexually explicit or graphically violent material.

  • Doxing: Sharing someone’s personal information without their consent.

  • Inappropriate Photography or Recording: Taking photos or recording individuals without their permission.

  • Unwanted Physical Contact: Engaging in any physical contact without explicit consent.

  • Sexual Harassment: Unwanted sexual attention, including inappropriate comments, gestures, or advances.

  • Intimidation or Stalking: Deliberately following, intimidating, or harassing someone, in person or online.

  • Disruption of Events: Interrupting talks, presentations, or other activities in a manner that disrupts the event.

  • Destruction or Harm: Causing damage to people, property, or the reputation of the Shawnee Game Conference and its attendees.

If you witness any of these behaviors, please report them to a conference staff member immediately.

EXPECTED LEVEL OF MATURITY

The Shawnee Game Conference is an opportunity to explore, learn, and engage with gaming culture. Presentations and workshops may cover complex and mature topics, similar to what one might encounter in a higher education setting. We expect attendees to engage with this content thoughtfully and respectfully. You are responsible for your conduct during any session you attend, so please familiarize yourself with the topics beforehand.

EXPO FLOOR CONTENT POLICIES

  • No Booth Babe Policy: The Shawnee Game Conference strictly prohibits the use of "booth babes" or similar tactics designed to draw attention through sexualization. Attendees and exhibitors are encouraged to focus on the content of their games and products. Cosplay is welcome, but should be in good taste and relevant to the event. Any questionable content will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Adult Content: While adult themes are a recognized part of gaming, exhibitors should be mindful of the diverse audience at the conference. If your booth includes content that is overtly sexually explicit or features extreme violence, please inform the conference organizers ahead of time so that appropriate measures can be taken to restrict access.

WEAPONS POLICY

No weapons are permitted at the Shawnee Game Conference, including guns, explosives, knives, or any items that could cause harm. This policy is strictly enforced, and anyone found in possession of such items will be asked to leave the event immediately. Compliance with all local and state laws regarding weapons is also expected.
